About Us
Welcome to Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department
We provide fire suppression, rescue operations, emergency medical, and all-hazards rescue services to the residents of Latham and Colonie, NY.
SERVICES
Our Services Make Your Life Safe and Secure
While we are a volunteer fire department, we do much more than fight fires! We are an “all hazards” response department that is called to all types of emergencies… Fires – Car Crashes – Water Rescue and General Water Emergencies – Carbon Monoxide Alarms and Medical Emergencies.
Fire Suppression
Our core mission is fire suppression and we regularly train to maintain a high degree of preparedness for this core function.
Rescue Operations
We are equipped with Holmatro “Jaws of Life” extrication tools and respond to car crashes and rescue people who are entrapped. Members train with a variety of rescue tools for lifting objects, cutting devices and stabilization tools.
Emergency Medical Response
All Verdoy Firefighters are trained in CPR and are equipped with an AED and basic emergency response equipment. Many of our members are also trained as Emergency Medical Technicians.
Hazardous Materials Response
All firefighters are trained to the Hazardous Materials Operations level and respond with our Town Haz-Mat team hazardous materials incidents

Be A Verdoy Volunteer Firefighter
Volunteers firefighters have been protecting American communities since the founding of America. In fact Ben Franklin founded the first volunteer fire department in America in Philadelphia. While most cities have career firefighters, most communities in the USA are served by VOLUNTEERS. That’s why we need you! Come over to our fire station and check us out!
Are you at least 16 years old?
Do you live in our fire district?
Do you have some time to give?
We are looking for looking for individuals at least 16 years old to join and serve the community. The commitment is only one evening for a week training/meetings and to respond to whatever alarms you are able to!

On May 19, 2025 members of the Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department and Latham Fire Department had the distinct honor of displaying the American flag between Trucks 4 and 11 at an event to support PepsiCo's Rolling Remembrance campaign.
First started by PepsiCo in 2015, Rolling Remembrance is a 14,000+ mile long relay of an American flag from Seattle to New York to benefit the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation. Using normal business routes, PepsiCo's extensive network of U.S. Military Veteran drivers will pass off a flag to each other at different relay points.
Also in attendance were Town of Colonie Supervisor Peter Crummey and members of the La Salle Institute JROTC leadership program.
