The first quarter of 2025 sure was a busy one, but also very productive for the Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department!

Our dedicated firefighters responded to a total of 144 incidents which included 10 fires, 6 of which were building fires. We also conducted 24 drills, resulting in 383 total training hours.

From bail out training, which is a fancy way of saying a controlled jump out of a window, to ice water rescues, complex vehicle extrications and so much more, our volunteer firefighters are always improving and elevating their skills to better serve our community!

On Monday March 17, 2025 at approximately 21:19 hours, the Verdoy Fire Department was dispatched to a general fire alarm activation at 1207 Troy Schenectady Road. The alarm location was reported to have been coming from the Bangkok Kitchen bar area and the Dental Office. The first arriving Fire Chief was on scene in less than four (4) minutes, while the first arriving fire apparatus was on scene within five (5) minutes and a second piece of fire apparatus directly behind.

Upon the initial arrival of fire department members, they did not observe any smoke or fire coming from the exterior of the building. While fire department crews were performing a 360-degree investigation of the building, heavy smoke was reported to be coming from the rear of the structure, specifically coming from the kitchen exhaust fan. The incident was immediately upgraded to a confirmed structure fire by the Incident Commander and additional mutual aid units were dispatched.

At this time, fire department personnel began to force entry to the rear door of the Bangkok Kitchen. Other fire department personnel were in the process of advancing fire attack handlines and establishing a water supply from a fire hydrant. Fire department personnel were also in the process of gaining access to the front of the building.

Upon the entry into the kitchen of the restaurant, fire department personnel observed an active fire. This report was immediately relayed to the Incident Commander. Fire department crew members quickly extinguished the fire and began checking for extension. Other crew members on scene began ventilation operations of the smoke throughout the entire building. A complete and thorough search was conducted throughout the entire building for victims with negative results, as the building was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Prior to completing operations, a Fire Investigator from the Town of Colonie Fire Services was requested to the scene by the Incident Commander.

Fire department personnel completed all fire ground operations and were returned to service at approximately 22:28.

At this time, the fire in under investigation by the Town of Colonie Fire Services.
